Coming of Age is a Japanese holiday to celebrate or “encourage” those who reached the age of 20 that they’ve become adults. Each prefecture has a different way of celebrating but at Kamakura, they’re taking it to a different level.
They will carry the heavy mikoshi, with the celebrated young ones on it, while dressed up with almost nothing in almost peak winter, into the freezing sea. I’ll have you know the temperature was at single digits.
This the meetup point for the first Instameet of the year. This has to be one of the most interesting instameets we had so far.
