Me & My New Machine

2016/04/02

It’s no secret that I loved computers. In fact, maybe that’s one of many reasons that I don’t mingle much with my other classmates back in school; because I love tech shits… and comics.

Friend: HAHA, YOU’RE A NERD!
Me: Welp, I guess that summed up the first paragraph really well.

Sigh.

Specs

Here are the specs for the nerds.

MB: Gigabyte GA-Z170MX-Gaming 5
CPU: Core i7 6700K, overclocked to 4.5Ghz
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro H100i GTX
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2133Ghz 32GB + 32GB
GPU: ASUS Strix GTX980Ti 6GB OC
SSD1: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
SSD2: Samsung 850 EVO 1TB
SSD3: Samsung 850 EVO 1TB

PSU: Corsair RM1000i
Casing: Thermaltake Core V21 Micro Chassis Black.

CPU

Intel i7 6700K is quite the no brainer. It’s not stupidly expensive and can be overclocked from 4Ghz to 4.5Ghz with ease.

Used a liquid cooling solution because I want keep CPU cool even wh… NO, I GOT IT BECAUSE IT’S COOL. YEAH, LIQUID COOLING BITCHES.

I did try to push it to 4.6Ghz; although stable, I decided to be happy with 4.5Ghz so the radiator fans doesn’t spin like a tornado.

However, it’s just a All-In-One solution, not a crazy custom cooling solution with custom pipes with custom radiator and custom coolant reservoir and all. Maybe I’ll try that out in the future, when I’m really, really bored or something.

In this build, I’ve decided to all SSD for 3 reasons: Speed, Physical Space and Zero Noise. I only had 500GB in the beginning.

I love building new machines. It’s like building lego blocks, very expensive lego blocks. I’d take my slow time unboxing everything with care, appreciating every single peripherals, and SNIFFING THAT BRAND NEW PRODUCT SMELL. You get the idea.

Future

I’ll upgrade the machine slowly and maybe, build a small and compact mini-ITX machine using current parts as I upgrade the components in the future.

The next immediate upgrade would be switching the 16GB module with another 32GB module to total up the RAM to 64GB, for the lulz.

Then more SSD. Yes. I love more space.

I still have no idea about whether I should upgrade to GTX1080. The GTX980Ti is serving me very well seeing that my primary monitor is running only at 1980*1200. Maybe I should just wait for 1080Ti.
